Update on our book on intangible capital
October 26, 2009 by Mary Adams · 8 Comments
Well, we did it! My co-author (and partner) Michael Oleksak and I sent the manuscript of Intangible Capital: Putting Knowledge to Work in the 21st Century Organization off to our publisher, Praeger’s Greenwood Press.
We used a method suggested by Dianna Booher, among others, to write the first draft in what our editor called a “white hot heat.” We did that back in April (a chapter per day for ten days) then took the intervening months to revise, tweak and consult with others about the ideas we put forth.
One discussion about IP got pretty heated but it was very helpful to us in figuring out how to frame our message.
I promise to share more of our thoughts in the coming months and update you as we get a better idea about the publication time sometime in 2010.

A few weeks ago as we were circulating drafts of our book Intangible Capital: Putting Knowledge to Work in the 21st Century Organization, I posted about the dilemma we were facing of what to call structural capital What is the Right Definition of Intellectual Property.
In the initial draft, we made the case that all structural capital is intellectual property. The aim was to help businesspeople see that all knowledge is valuable and that IP, while important, is not the only kind of knowledge asset and is not the only strategy for protecting knowledge assets.
